Sequel to Karen Gillan’s Gunpowder Milkshake in Development

The first instalment of Gunpowder Milkshake isn’t even out yet, but it’s been announced that a sequel to the film, which stars former Amy Pond actress, Karen Gillan, is already in development!

In February 2020, STX Entertainment acquired distribution rights to the film, then in April 2021, Netflix bought US distribution rights from the company. StudioCanal holds onto rights in the UK, France, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand, while STX is in charge in Canada, China, and Latin America.

Gunpowder Milkshake will debut on Netflix in America on 14th July 2021, although we don’t know when other territories will screen it.

Nonetheless, it’s been announced that it will get an international theatre release, followed by a sequel.

Karen plays an assassin, Sam, leading an amazing cast which also includes Lena Headey (Game of Thrones), Samuel Anderson (Danny in Doctor Who Series 8), Michelle Yeoh (Star Trek: Discovery), Michael Smiley (Into the Dalek), Ed Birch (Sherlock), Angela Bassett (Black Panther), and Paul Giamatti (Saving Mr Banks).

Gillan’s teased that the trailer for the movie — in which “a secret sisterhood of assassins, over the course of a single night, fight to stop a cycle of violence while coming to the aid of a mother-daughter assassin duo” — will be released on Tuesday 25th May, so expect to hear a lot more (likely including international release dates) very soon.

We’re always happy to see Karen’s star continuing to rise. Gunpowder Milkshake is one of numerous films she’s set to appear in, a slate which also includes two Marvel movies, Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) and Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3 (2023). She’ll also voice Nebula in the Disney+ Marvel series, What If…?, expected later this year.
