Judges for Big Finish’s Paul Spragg Memorial Short Trips Opportunity Announced

There’s still time for you to submit an entry to Big Finish’s annual Short Trips writing opportunity, giving new writers the chance to create a Doctor Who story — and the winning story will be released as an audiobook this Christmas!

The Paul Spragg Memorial Short Trips Opportunity honours the memory of the cheerful, much-loved person at the heart of the Big Finish production office, who passed away suddenly on 8th May 2014.

This year’s judging panel comprises of Nicholas Briggs, Big Finish’s Creative Director; Alfie Shaw, Producer of the Doctor Who: Short Trips range; Robert Shearman (Dalek); and Emily Cook, Big Finish Producer.

Nicholas Briggs said:

“It’s an honour to return to my annual role of judge on the Paul Spragg Writing Opportunity. And I’m very heartened to see my old friend and acclaimed author Rob Shearman returning too. Together with Big Finish producers Emily Cook and Alfie Shaw, we’ll be searching for the rising writing stars of tomorrow, both in Big Finish and hopefully beyond.”

Alfie Shaw added:

“It’s always a thrill to find that next brilliant idea to add to the world of Doctor Who. We get so many fabulous entries every year, and it is always such a tough decision to pick the winner. Best of luck to every sending in pitches, and I look forward to working with one of you soon!”

Robert Shearman said:

“It’s been a terrible, disorientating time for us all – but one thing we haven’t needed to lock down is our imaginations. And as we find ourselves unable to travel in the way we once took for granted, Doctor Who writers know that they’re lucky – they can cross borders and have the whole of time and space to play with. I can’t wait to read all the new stories that have been submitted this year!”

Emily Cook said:

“What a joy to be a judge for this wonderful writing competition! Doctor Who has such a creative fan-base and this is a great opportunity to bring a bold and brilliant new story idea to life. I’m excited to find out what this year’s submissions have in store. Good luck to all the entrants – and happy writing!”

Now in its sixth year, the Paul Spragg Memorial Short Trips Writers’ Opportunity is open until the end of June.
