Janet Fielding: “The Power of the Doctor Is 90 Minutes of Full-On Action!”

The Power of the Doctor is now just a week away, and returning actress, Janet Fielding, teases that it’s “Big, big, big, big, big”… so we reckon it’s gonna be pretty big!

Fielding, who is coming back as Fourth and Fifth Doctor companion, Tegan Jovanka, said:

“There’s a lot crammed into that 90 minutes, there really is – it’s full-on action for 90 minutes. Very exciting.”

And she further explained:

“[There’s] way more action than there was in my day. I blame Sophie Aldred [Ace] for that. Chris [Chibnall, showrunner] phoned and chatted to us about our characters, and what we thought might have happened to them after the TARDIS. And Sophie said, ‘You know, whatever else happens, I wanna be an action hero.’ Right, thanks Soph. Nice one. So there I am, running endlessly up and down stairs, dodging Cybermen.”

We’ve already seen a brief clip of Tegan and Ace fending off Cybermen, but we should expect to see quite a bit more of the two companions. Janet also teased:

“I wasn’t by any means filming every day, but it was over a period of six weeks.”

This upcoming special is the last story with Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor, and will also be the last written by Chris Chibnall. Mandip Gill (Yasmin Khan) and John Bishop (Dan Lewis) are also expected to leave the show.

Alongside Tegan and Ace, we can expect more returning faces, including Sacha Dhawan as the Master and Jemma Redgrave as UNIT’s Kate Stewart.

The Power of the Doctor airs on Sunday 23rd October 2022.
