Block Three of Doctor Who Series 14 began filming on 1st March 2023, with a director new to the show: Julie Anne Robertson.
Showrunner, Russell T Davies, revealed to Doctor Who Magazine:
“Julie Anne is a dream piece of crewing for me, because I’ve wanted to work with her ever since sitting in awe of the BBC’s Blackpool. Julie Anne comes with the best reference ever – an actor called David Tennant, who starred in Blackpool and loves her!”
Blackpool (known in America as Viva Blackpool), of course, starred the Tenth and Fourteenth Doctor actor, with The Next Doctor star, David Morrissey. Robertson directed the programme, alongside Coky Giedroyc and Catherine Morshead.
Robertson’s credits extend far beyond Blackpool: she’s most recently worked on Bridgerton and the legal drama, Partner Track. She’s also worked on Selfie (with Karen Gillan, aka Eleventh Doctor companion, Amy Pond), Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Good Place, and plenty more besides.
Block Three of Series 14 stars Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor and Millie Gibson as companion, Ruby Sunday. It’ll consist of at least two episodes, potentially a two-parter. Tobias Datum is its cinematographer and Dan Mumford is assistant director on the shoot.
Expect to see Gatwa, Gibson, and Robertson on location filming for the series imminently!
Previous shooting has taken place in and around the Cardiff and South Wales area, as well as Bristol in North Somerset, the latter for the Christmas special which is helmed by returning director, Mark Tonderai (The Ghost Monument; Rosa).
