Jemma Redgrave, who plays Kate Stewart, head of UNIT, has spoken about returning to the show for Doctor Who Series 14 — but has denied that she’s going to be in a spin-off show about the UNited Intelligence Taskforce.
Kate and UNIT were confirmed to be back by the BBC earlier this year, but Jemma has specified that she’s not actually shared any scenes with the Fifteenth Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa, instead filming with Millie Gibson, who plays new companion, Ruby Sunday.
Jemma told Good Morning Britain:
“I don’t know anything about a spin-off! But I have been asked and I have been back — I’ve done one episode in Series 14.
“It’s such a wonderful thing to be part of, that family, and I’ve never taken it for granted that I will be brought back. It was absolutely tremendous. And to be part of [showrunner] Russel T Davies’ new vision is exciting.
“I haven’t yet got to work with Ncuti. I’ve worked with Millie. But hopefully, who knows, that will happen.”
It seems unusual that Kate’s not met the new Doctor, but it’s inevitable, right?
Jemma has been seen on location shooting with Millie, but not Ncuti, so maybe they’re just keeping it quiet. So far, nothing has really leaked about Series 14, so we shall see!
Rumours about a UNIT spin-off series have been circulating for some time; we know, at least, that there will be spin-offs, so one focusing on as key a part of Doctor Who as UNIT seems a sure-fire hit.
Doctor Who Series 14 will screen in early 2024.
