Varada Sethu will join the Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) in Doctor Who Series 15, due to air in 2025.
Yep, the tabloids can go eat themselves — Millie is staying on for a second season of the show, alongside Ncuti, travelling with Sethu.
Sethu says:
“I feel like the luckiest person in the world. It is such an honour to be a part of the Whoniverse, and I’m so grateful to the whole Doctor Who family – because that is what they are – for welcoming me with open arms and making me feel so at home. I couldn’t ask for a better team than Ncuti and Millie to be on this adventure with, this is SO much fun!”
The 32-year-old actress has appeared in the Star Wars spin-off, Andor, as well as Hard Sun (penned by Hide‘s Neil Cross), Jurassic World Dominion, and Now You See Me 2.
Showrunner, Russell T Davies, says:
“I first worked with Varada on a BBC production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and it’s a joy to welcome her on board the TARDIS. Right now in the studio, shooting for 2025, we’ve got Ncuti, Millie and Varada fighting side by side – we need all three, because the stakes are higher than ever!”
Sethu joining the cast has been rumoured since January, though initial reports suggested that she’d be replacing Gibson. In fact, we called out the papers for treating Millie so badly. Fortunately, Davies hinted that Ruby would be back, and we’re happy to say that, yes, the Fifteenth Doctor is going to travel with numerous companions.
He’s far from the first Doctor to do so — many Doctors, including the First, Second, Fifth, Ninth, and Eleventh, have travelled through time and space with more than one companion.
So we look forward to seeing Ncuti, Millie, and Varada in Doctor Who Series 15 in 2025!
