A number of actors have just been announced for the Doctor Who spin-off series, The War Between the Land and the Sea, including a star from The Office and a Call the Midwife actress who previously acted with Ncuti Gatwa (the Fifteenth Doctor) at a major global event.
Aside from Doctor Who alumni like Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Russell Tovey, The War Between the Land and the Sea will co-star Patrick Baladi (The Office), Vincent Franklin (Yesterday), Francesca Corney (The Buccaneers), and Adrian Lukis (who’s been in numerous Big Finish adventures, as well as TV series like Poldark).
The spin-off show, written by showrunner Russell T Davies (Midnight) and Pete McTighe (Praxeus), will also feature Mei Mac, who played Juliet opposite Ncuti Gatwa’s Romeo at King Charles III’s coronation concert last year.
Jemma Redgrave, Ruth Madeley, Alexander Devrient, and Colin McFarlane have all been confirmed as returning for The War Between the Land and the Sea, respectively playing Kate Stewart, Shirley Anne Bingham, Colonel Christofer Ibrahim, and General Pierce.
I met Vincent Franklin about a decade ago when I was at university; he was a nice chap, so it’s been nice to see his star rising, from cameos and on-off appearances in shows like Doc Martin to being a regular in hit programmes like Bodyguard and Happy Valley. So it’ll be great to see him in the Whoniverse!
The War Between the Land and the Sea is directed by Dylan Holmes Williams (73 Yards; Dot and Bubble), and is currently filming, for an expected airdate in 2025. Rumours persist that the show will see UNIT facing the Sea Devils.
