The BBC has released the first trailer for The War Between the Land and the Sea, the new Doctor Who spin-off that features Russell Tovey as Barclay and Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Salt. Though there’s been much speculation about the Sea Devils returning, the latter looks more like one of the Fish People from The Underwater Menace.
The five-part series, written by Russell T Davies (The Reality War) and Pete McTighe (Lucky Day), and directed by Dylan Holmes Williams (73 Yards), also stars Jemma Redgrave as Kate Stewart, Ruth Madeley as Shirley Anne Bingham, Alexander Devrient as Colonel Christofer Ibrahim, and Colin McFarlane as General Pierce (Torchwood), alongside Adrian Lukis, Patrick Baladi, Francesca Corney, Mei Mac, and Vincent Franklin.
We reckon Romeo and Juliet, but with a Fish Person.
Here’s the blurb:
When a fearsome and ancient species emerges from the ocean, dramatically revealing themselves to humanity, an international crisis is triggered. With the entire population at risk, UNIT step into action as the land and sea wage war.
Russell T Davies says:
“The excitement is beginning to build, as the Whoniverse expands. I can’t wait for people to see this magnificent cast in such a powerful, vital, epic story. Look to the seas!”
Epic again, eh?
The War Between the Land and the Sea will air on BBC1 in the UK, and exclusively on Disney+ in other territories.
