Out Now: The Eighth Doctor Guest Stars in the Final Set of The Paternoster Gang — Trespassers

The Paternoster Gang’s latest arc concludes with the release of the final volume in the Trespassers saga from Big Finish. Across the previous three box sets, Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh), her wife Jenny (Catrin Stewart), and Sontaran butler Strax (Dan Starkey) have been tormented by a criminal mastermind. In Trespassers – Last Stand, the trio finally confront their nemesis…

Spoilers for Trespassers 3 – No Place Like Home follow…

In boxset, comprised of three final adventures of the arc, the Gang will face off against this shapeshifting menace once and for all — because Brottac has been revealed to be a Zygon!

Nicholas Briggs, executive producer and voice of Brottac, said:

“We love a Zygon if we’re old enough to remember Terror of the Zygons. The way they were presented back in 1975 gives them a really special place in the hearts of Doctor Who fans. The whole business of them being able to change their appearance and be anyone has comedy implications, which is why they beautifully fit into The Paternoster Gang as well.”

There’s help on hand, though, as Paul McGann guest stars in the box set’s third episode as the Eighth Doctor (who previously encountered the Gang in Trespassers 1 – Rogue’s Gallery). Will the help of their Time Lord friend be enough for the Victorian trio to triumph against their nemesis?

First, though, there are the matters of the ghosts of Briar Hall, and a hatmaker who’s not what he seems…

The set includes:

I Married a Zygon by Alan Ronald

The Gang visit an old friend in a haunted mansion. Miss Faversham is suffering a mysterious malady, and her engagement to the curious Lord Briar convinces Vastra she can scent the enemy…

As Jenny helps supernatural investigator Harriet Cross catch a ghost, they discover something far more dangerous loose inside the walls of Briar Hall.

A Passion for Fashion by Helen Goldwyn

Society ladies are losing their fortunes and growing mortally sick – apparently infected by insatiable desire for the designs of enigmatic hat-maker, Monsieur Declerq.

With the help of a shop-girl, the Gang uncover rivalry in the fashion world and a dark trade in cruel importation. They also find that Monsieur Declerq is much more than a flamboyant fashionista.

The Final Poblom by Lauren Mooney & Stewart Pringle

The villainous trespasser has finally succeeded in banishing the Paternosters from their home, using the most powerful weapon in his arsenal: the bailiffs.

Stuck in a seedy boarding house, the Gang soon realise something else is afoot. Things are going missing. Something is munching its way through London, and it may be the answer to all their problems…

The box set’s guest cast includes Beth Chalmers (reprising the character of Miss Faversham from Trespassers 1), Kammy Darweish, Susan Harrison, Lara Lemon, Shogo Miyakita, Kate O’Sullivan, John Ramm, and Andrew James Spooner.

Starkey said:

“So Madame Vastra is reaching her Reichenbach Falls moment, and we come to the end of this exciting story arc across the whole of the Trespassers set, where our equivalent of Moriarty, the villainous Brottac the Zygon, faces off against the gang. The gang fall further than they’ve ever been before, but do they win? Don’t they? You’ll have to listen and find out.”

Catrin Stewart added:

“There are some really nice moments between Madame Vastra and Jenny, some really tender moments. And it’s very fun. Quite a lot of action, and a lot of shouting and gasping! The fact we’re still here playing these characters all these years later is amazing. There’s so much scope for so many stories with Big Finish.”

The latter CD box set is strictly limited to 1,000 copies and will not be repressed.
