Doctor Who Soundtrack for Second Doctor Classic, The Moonbase, to be Released on Vinyl

The soundtrack to The Moonbase, a Second Doctor (Patrick Troughton) story and the second serial to feature the Cybermen, will be released on vinyl later this year.

Oh, and the cover is gorgeous.

Demon Records presents, for the first time on 2LP vinyl, the complete full-cast soundtrack of this half-missing story, with linking narration by Frazer Hines, who played the Doctor’s companion, Jamie McCrimmon.

Here’s what to expect:

“There are some corners of the universe which have bred the most terrible things…They must be fought.”

The Second Doctor (Patrick Troughton) is thrown into his first rematch with the Cybermen in the year 2070. Humans have colonized the Moon, and the Cybermen have identified their base as a strategic vantage point from which to invade Earth! Can the Doctor and his companions Polly (Anneke Wills), Ben (Michael Craze) and Jamie (Frazer Hines) stop them?

First broadcast in 1967, this exciting adventure was written by Kit Pedler and directed by Morris Barry, with a guest cast including Patrick Barr, Andrew Maranne, Michael Wolf and John Rolfe. Whilst only two of the four episodes are known to survive on film, thankfully all four are available as sound recordings, complete with the BBC Radiophonic Workshop’s familiar Doctor Who theme music.

These two 140g translucent ‘Blue Moon’ discs are housed in inner sleeves with vintage TV guide-style listings for each episode, with lovely front cover art showing the Doctor, the Moon, and the Cybermen flanking the TARDIS.

The track listing is as you’d expect:

  • LP 1 Side A: Episode One – Originally broadcast 11th February 1967
  • LP 1 Side B: Episode Two – Originally broadcast 18th February 1967
  • LP 2 Side C: Episode Three – Originally broadcast 25th February 1967
  • LP 2 Side D: Episode Four – Originally broadcast 4th March 1967

The Moonbase will be released on vinyl on 19th September 2025.
