Alex Kingston, who played Doctor Who companion, River Song, is rumoured to be in this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing.
Kingston first appeared as River opposite David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor, in Silence in the Library/ Forest of the Dead, before returning repeatedly with Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor, then a swansong episode, The Husbands of River Song with the Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi). Now, she’s rumoured to be in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, the popular reality TV show in which celebrities are paired up with professionals to learn how to dance an array of routines in ballroom and Latin styles.
A mysterious insider said:
“She’s a real talent and will add a lot; it’s always exciting to have a prestigious actress on the cast.
“It’s the first time Alex has done a reality show of any kind, but she’s a huge fan of the show and couldn’t resist the opportunity.”
If true, we’ll be seeing a lot more of Alex, given not only that she’d be in the live Saturday night show and its Sunday results programmes, but also featuring regularly on daily spin-off, Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two.
And we do know that Alex is a fan. In 2019, she said:
“[Actress and friend] Sarah Hadland and I talked about how much we’d like to do Strictly Come Dancing. Then I discovered she’s a trained ballet dancer. ‘Hang on a minute! That’s not fair!’ So, I can’t do it on a season when she is on it!”
The BBC has refused to comment, as expected. The launch line-up is expected to be revealed towards the end of this month and into early September, but rehearsals have begun.
