The Doctor Who Battles in Time trading card game is coming back for its 20th anniversary!
Heathside Trading and BBC Studios have announced a new agreement to bring back the wildly popular trading card game (TCG), Battles in Time, which ran throughout the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) era. Originally launched in September 2006 with a fortnightly magazine, the game became a fan favourite before ceasing production in 2009. Now, in time for its 20th anniversary, Heathside is set relaunch the original game alongside new lines designed to fit seamlessly into any the original collection.
Darren Epstein, EVP of Global Business Development at Heathside, said:
“We have a long history of working on trading cards at Heathside, and a few of us were collectors of the original Battles in Time game, so we’re thrilled to be bringing it back to fans with all new cards. We’re excited to be expanding our range with BBC Studios following the success of our wider Doctor Who collectibles portfolio, and we look forward to bringing even more iconic products to fans.”
Hopefully, this means we’ll get cards related to the Eleventh, Twelfth, Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth Doctors.
A representative of BBC Studios added:
“Doctor Who has one of the richest archives in entertainment, and Battles in Time is a beloved part of that legacy. We’re delighted to be working with Heathside to bring this iconic trading card game back to fans, both in its original form and with exciting new additions. It’s a fantastic way to celebrate the 20th anniversary and continue engaging audiences with the world of Doctor Who.”
The new range will debut in 2026 on MasterReplicas.com, with products launching for preorder throughout the year.
Personally, I’m excited about this — I used to get Battles in Time back in the day (though fear of damaging cards forbade me from playing the game itself!), so I get a heady whiff of nostalgia from this news. I hope we’ve more Battles in Time fans on the DWC too.
