Coming Soon to Blu-ray: Peter Davison’s Last Season as the Fifth Doctor in Doctor Who — The Collection

The BBC has announced that the next series to be released as part of the Doctor Who: The Collection Blu-ray range will be Season 21, the last to feature Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor.

It will also include Colin Baker’s first story as the Sixth Doctor.

The Collection: Season 21 includes:

  • Warriors of the Deep
  • The Awakening
  • Frontios
  • Resurrection of the Daleks
  • Planet of Fire
  • The Caves of Androzani
  • The Twin Dilemma

The Caves of Androzani, of course, is often seen as one of the show’s greatest ever serials — and rightly so!

In his final season, Peter Davison’s Doctor faces terrors from his past, invaders from the future, arch enemies, and a battle to the death. With companions Tegan (Janet Fielding), Turlough (Mark Strickson), Peri (Nicola Bryant), and (sometimes) robot Kamelion (Gerald Flood), the Doctor journeys from an underwater seabase to contemporary England, from a devastated Earth colony to the beaches of Lanzarote, from a volcanic alien world to the deadly caves on Androzani. Along the way, the TARDIS crew confront Daleks, Sea Devils, Silurians, Tractators, slug-like Gastropods, the evil Malus, and the vengeful Master!

And what’s this? A trailer!

The set boasts many new special features, and all episodes have been newly remastered from the best available sources… but from the looks of the trailer, they’ll again be using AI to help upscale things. I personally am against this because: 1. It looks awful; and 2. I hate AI being used in creative pursuits. So I might not be pre-ordering this until we learn whether the makers take into account the strong opposition. And if they sell out, then so be it.
