Jodie Whittaker enjoyed three seasons as the Thirteenth Doctor, but there was one character she wanted to meet but didn’t. Except she technically did.
When asked who she’d have liked to have faced, Jodie replied:
“I love the Master; Sacha [Dhawan, who played the Master opposite Jodie in Series 12] is incredible. I would have loved to go head-to-head with Missy; I think that would have been epic.”
Missy, of course, was the female version of the Master, as played by Michelle Gomez. So she did face the character; just not that incarnation. We last saw Missy, shot in the back by John Simm’s Master, in Peter Capaldi’s penultimate episode, The Doctor Falls; meanwhile, we saw Dhawan’s Master last in Jodie’s final story, The Power of the Doctor. That’s also the last time we saw the Master.
As for which other monsters Jodie would like to face again, she spotlights one who most would be… surprised at, let’s say…
“I would love to go find the bloody Pting and see how much destruction they’d cause. Because they were the cutest little things, but really quite irritating if you fly through space in something metal. So I’d like to go and have another episode with the Pting.”
We met the Pting in The Tsuranga Conundrum, an episode that wasn’t welcomed with glowing praise, but out of all the stories featuring the Thirteenth Doctor, The Tsuranga Conundrum was definitely one of them. Yes. That’s right. Ahem.
