Film is Fabulous! Says They Don’t Have Any More Missing Doctor Who Episodes

Following the announcement that two episodes of The Daleks’ Master Plan have been found, film preservation charity, Film is Fabulous!, has clarified that it’s not holding back any further missing Doctor Who episodes.

The charitable trust said:

“Film is Fabulous! do not have any other missing episodes of Doctor Who. We are not holding any missing episodes back to announce at the special screening on Saturday, 4th April 2026. Film is Fabulous! do not discuss the details of elderly private collectors, or the films in their collections, with third parties. John Franklin and Prof. Justin Smith are the only members of the team who know the facts, and they will not disclose this information, even during interviews with the media.”

They have confirmed that several other episodes were in the collection left by the late collector who owned The Nightmare Begins and Devil’s Planet; however, these are not missing episodes: they’re reels of, for instance, The Web Planet, The Chase, and The Daleks, all of which already exist in the BBC archives.

It also seems that it was Film is Fabulous! that suggested the episodes be made publicly available on BBC iPlayer, which is, of course, a massive positive to anyone in the UK.

They also confirmed that the missing episodes hinted at last year in a podcast were indeed the ones revealed this last week:

“In October 2025, John Franklin appeared on the Doctor Who Missing Episodes Podcast with Tim Burrows, and gave a detailed explanation of the circumstances surrounding a film collector, who had sadly died, and the films within the gentleman’s collection. The two missing episodes of Doctor Who announced on Friday, 13th March 2026, were recovered from that collection.

“The deceased collector curated his films with great care, but did not necessarily appreciate the importance of each print, or their archival status. Indeed, he had no knowledge of, or interest in, Doctor Who. The original 16mm prints of the recovered episodes, with the restored digital scans, will be returned to the BBC Archives.”

Film is Fabulous! further acknowledges that, while “it’s inevitable that missing and rare items, which have been presumed lost for decades, will be found in private collections”, that’s not the trust’s primary concern: they exist to preserve collections, so the team doesn’t actively hunt for missing episodes of anything, let alone Doctor Who.

Nonetheless, we hear from other sources that more missing episodes do exist, so the total number — now 95 episodes — will go down.

We just have to be patient and thankful for what we’ve got.
