Candy Jar Books will have a pop-up stall in Cardiff Bay this Bank Holiday weekend, with a bevvy of writers in attendance ready to sign your Doctor Who-related books!

Also, some non-Doctor Who-related books, if that’s your sort of thing.

Paul Wines will be there on Saturday 29th August, alongside Paul Robinson. Wines wrote the Lucy Wilson adventure, The Games Master, while Robinson is the author of Web of Terror, as well as many other fabulous children’s novels. I edited The Games Master — a really fun story in which lots of convention visitors dress like Sherlock Holmes and battle a mysterious man who entwines Lucy and her friend Hobo in a series of deadly games.

For anyone unfamiliar with Lucy Wilson, she’s the granddaughter of Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, and she continues his legacy by battling all manner of threats from space, Earth, and elsewhere…

Also on Saturday, you can meet the lovely Omri Stephenson, who will be launching his beautiful new picture book, Hippos Can’t Swim.

On Sunday, my old school chum, Thom Gray, will be joining the pop-up stall, signing copies of his excellent book, 100 Objects of ’90s Children’s TV. It really is superb and speaks to multiple generations, featuring interviews with stars like Tony Robinson, Richard Marson, and Mark Billingham. He’ll be joined by palmist, Anna Lee, and Emertha Uwanyirigira, author of the fascinating biography, The Brave Girl Within.

Then, on Bank Holiday Monday, Paul Robinson returns, alongside Cherry Cobb (The Lucy Wilson Mysteries: Stop the Clock!) and Nia Thorne (We Are Wild Things).

And Candy Jar Books will be launching Selwyn the Dragon by Darren Evans, a charming new Welsh tale about a friendly dragon who lives in the magical landscape of Eryri (Snowdonia). It’s the perfect book for young readers – and anyone who believes that Wales could always use a few more dragons.
