A senior commissioner at Prime Video has expressed an interest in adding Doctor Who to the streaming service’s portfolio.
Oliver Jones, Prime Video’s senior commissioner, UK scripted, attended the 2026 Edinburgh TV Festival, and was asked about the franchise, seeing as Doctor Who is due to go out to tender later this year. He enthused:
“I love Doctor Who, so we’d welcome any conversations.”
It’s not exactly an extensive endorsement, but then, you’d not really expect that anyway: details of the tender process haven’t even been announced yet — though they’re expected to be by the end of this year — so no production company is going to fly a flag too elaborately at this stage, lest the flagpole be too costly to erect. Nonetheless, Doctor Who is a huge brand, one that’s perhaps damaged by Disney pulling out so recently and showrunner Russell T Davies departing while leaving the latest episode, The Reality War, on a shocking cliffhanger — but not irrevocably.
Prime Video has a number of popular exclusives in its portfolio including The Man in the High Castle, Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Reacher, Invincible, and Bosch (Mum and Dad especially like Jack Ryan). So Doctor Who would be in good company.
All this is still to be decided, and we expect a few months of every production team under the sun expressing an interest.
Heck, a lot of DWC writers, commenters, and visitors would throw their hats into the ring to take on Who!
Sadly, we’re unlikely to meet the BBC’s expectations. Largely as those expectations will include a big bag with a pound sign on it…
