Would David Tennant Return as the Fourteenth Doctor Who? (Of Course He Would)

David Tennant says he’d be open to returning to Doctor Who again after stints as the Tenth and Fourteenth Doctors — although that’s little surprise as he clearly loves it!

But while most interviewers ask about the chances of his coming back as the Tenth Doctor, Doctor Who Magazine wondered whether he’d return as the Fourteenth. He replied:

“I’m open to anything that’s suggested, to be honest… It’s fun to dip a toe back in these worlds.”

The Fourteenth Doctor was last seen in The Giggle chilling in Donna Noble’s garden with Mel Bush, apparently coming to terms with all he’s lost and trying to settle down. He didn’t even pop up when the Rani rewrote the world or Sutekh destroyed everything. However, Tennant — like most of us — isn’t buying it. He added:

“It’s hard to imagine that’s where it would end, isn’t it?”

It was decided that there would be no further Fourteenth Doctor appearances in multimedia platforms during the 60th anniversary adventures, aside from a comic strip in DWM. But Tennant wasn’t aware of this, as he said:

“It’s interesting, I didn’t know that there was a sort of embargo on any other worlds for that particular strain of the character.”

Let’s face it though: with former showrunner Russell T Davies having left the franchise, we doubt there’d be any issues with that incarnation cropping up again. Many fans would welcome it.

So if you want to hear more of the Fourteenth Doctor in Big Finish audios, for example, we wouldn’t think that’s entirely out of the question…
