Here’s something you might like. Browsing for Doctor Who content on the internet is a hit-and-miss affair but without my daily scrolling and clicking, I’d never have come across the wonderful artwork of Charles Waples.
Charles’s Doctor Who art is a delight. He knows Doctor Who backwards, sideways and forwards in time and space and his distinctive, witty style exactly captures the essence of individual Who stories. His accurate renderings of Who characters and moments always give pleasure.
Charles has also created a first class graphic novel of Ian Fleming’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, based on the film starring George Lazenby (the Paul McGann of James Bonds).
What’s more, his prints and pictures are available to buy and I have a print of four of his illustrations on my wall! Charles offers his artworks at a reasonable price, prints them on high quality paper and dispatches them promptly. He also takes commissions.
Charles started his career as an actor and writer of television, film and radio scripts for the BBC, Granada and Sky, among others. He has written scripts for shows starring Paul O’Grady, John Thomson, Arnold Brown, Caroline Aherne and Johnny Vaughan.
His credits as a storyboard artist include two feature films, The Mystery of Casa Matusita, starring Malcolm McDowell, and Sister Cities, by Colette Friedman, featuring Alfred Molina – both for Prospect House Entertainment, CA.
