Coming Soon: The CD Soundtrack of Doctor Who — Timelash (No, Really)

We wonder what a 1985 Doctor Who audience would make of this: the upcoming release of the soundtrack of Timelash, coming soon on CD!

This Sixth Doctor serial has always had quite a hard time of it, but honestly, I’ve seen worse. The Borad is actually really cool and there are some nice concepts; performances are generally good too, led, of course, by Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant. Nonetheless, a lot of people hold it up as one of the worst Doctor Who serials, so it’s rather a surprise (albeit a pleasant one) that Silva Screen Records is bringing out the soundtrack on CD.

It is, however, utterly pants that they’ve “upscaled” using terrible AI on the cover, resulting in everyone looking a bit like an Auton…

Composer, Elizabeth Parker, says:

“I wanted the music for Timelash to be true grit. I needed the score to be edgy, spiky, strident and powerful, emerging from a distinctive angular sound palette which I took huge time and effort to create, largely using the PPG Wave synth and some of its glorious gutsy sounds. I could hear the score in my head before I started composing – I knew exactly where I was going with the sound and I am immensely proud of the way it turned out – some great combinations of electronic sounds… to me it sounds pretty contemporary, even 40 years later.”
