The upcoming series of Doctor Who will take a significant role at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, and the date and time all fans will want to add to their calendars have finally been confirmed.
It feels like an age since actual Doctor Who news was actually confirmed, and that’s because it actually has been an age. (The “actually”s were on purpose, grammarati.) But we should learn a lot more when Jodie Whittaker headlines Hall H at the SDCC 2018 on Thursday 19th July – it’ll take place at 11:45am local time, which is 7:45pm in the UK.
We expect to learn more about Doctor Who Series 11, the first with Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor; it’ll be something of a relief after the black hole of news we’ve currently been subjected to thus far. At least we know the full line-up of directors, namely Jamie Childs, Mark Tonderai, Sallie Aprahamian, and Jennifer Perrott.
Whittaker will be joined at SDCC by new showrunner, Chris Chibnall; Executive Producer, Matt Strevens; and new companions, Mandip Gill and Tosin Cole.
This comes as something of a surprise: normally, the heavy-hitters are showcased across the weekend of the comic convention; this year, Doctor Who will be spotlighted on the very first day of the event. At least it means news sooner than expected.
Mind you, none of this will appease British fans who think it’s a tad unfair that the wider public don’t get to see footage (which feels inevitable). But then, Doctor Who was always going to have a presence at the world’s biggest convention…
