Doctor Who Leaves Empty-Handed at National Television Awards 2019

Doctor Who lost out at last night’s National Television Awards (NTAs) 2019, although Bradley Walsh’s The Chase was named Best Quiz Show… And due to filming abroad, Walsh accepted the gong via FaceTime!

The Chasers made their way to the stage, and produced an iPhone, on which Walsh was seen beaming at the camera. None of the Doctor Who team were at the ceremony as they’re in South Africa, getting ready to begin filming for Series 12.

Jodie Whittaker was nominated for Best Drama Performance, losing out to Richard Madden for his role in Bodyguard; while Doctor Who itself was up for Best Drama (which ultimately went to Peaky Blinders).

Bonnie Langford, known to fans as Mel Bush, lost out to Danny Dyer (no, really) for Best Serial Drama Performance.

There was some good news, however: Peter Kay’s Car Share went home with Best Comedy (very well-deserved, I should add). Meanwhile, Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs was named Best Factual Entertainment. Well, he was in The Stolen Earth, for all those RTD enthusiasts out there.

It’s a shame Doctor Who didn’t win anything at the annual event, but at least the show had nominations. Congratulations to the winners!
