What Are Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill’s Favourite Doctor Who Monsters?

The past two series have given us mud monsters, toothy terrors, scares from scorpions, and other highly alliterative creations. So which aliens have Jodie Whittaker (the Thirteenth Doctor) and Mandip Gill (companion, Yasmin Khan) enjoyed acting with most?

Surprisingly, both agree that they liked the Pting from The Tsuranga Conundrum, although part of this seems to be how it transitioned into something cute when rendered using CGI. Whittaker explains:

“The Pting would transition from like a first AD, assistant director, laid on the floor pretending to be a tiny Pting to someone banging on a wall – and then when we watched it, it was such a cute little thing!”

Their other highlights include Arachnids in the UK, It Takes You Away, and The Witchfinders.

The pair’s discussion ties into the release of The Monster Vault, a new hardback book sure to be on the Christmas list of all discerning Doctor Who fans, exploring the various aliens the Doctor has encountered since 1963, from Daleks and Cybermen to Dregs and the spiders of Metebelis III.
