John Barrowman’s latest work from Legendary Comics, Acursian, will be printed in a special edition collection of the mini-series, which had only previously available to read online.
Also a co-writer on this project is Erika Lewis. The trade paperback is available to order online and in bookshops now.
Over the last few years, John Barrowman has made quite the name for himself as a writer. He’s a pretty good one too and usually pairs with his sister Carole. Over the last few years, he’s given us the Hollow Earth Trilogy, Orion Chronicles, The Dark Archer, a DC Comic based on his character from Arrow, and two volumes of Torchwood comics as well as the Torchwood book, The Exodus Code.
Acursian is a story set in Celtic myths, something close to Barrowman as he originates from Scotland. The story concerns Charlie, a man who looks suspiciously like Barrowman, who has fallen victim to an ancient curse and every choice he makes is doomed to fail. But as he delves into the mystery, Charlie discovers it isn’t just him suffering from the curse; his whole family has and it will pass to his son if he doesn’t find a way to fix it. Charlie has to travel to realms humans weren’t meant to see to find the answers.
Legendary Comics Vice President, Robert Napton had this to say about the news:
“We are delighted to present Acursian in this definitive format and re-introduce the vivid characters, mythology, and world created by John, Carole and Erika.”
Creators, John Barrowman, Carole Barrowman, and Erika Lewis seemed equally as pleased. “It’ll shimmer on people’s shelves,” they said.
I will probably track this down: though I hadn’t heard of it until now, it sounds right up my street and Barrowman had previously impressed me with his writing on the Torchwood comic.
With art by Beni Lobel and designs from Tommy Lee Edwards, Acursian can be found in bookshops, comic stores and online retailers now.
