Following the news that Russell T Davies will return as Doctor Who showrunner for the 60th anniversary and beyond, William Hill has revealed that Olly Alexander is the favourite to play the Fourteenth Doctor.
Davies worked with Alexander on It’s A Sin, although Olly is probably best known as the frontman of band, Years & Years. Alexander is now 1-2 favourite to become the next Doctor, according to William Hill. That is, despite him denying it twice — once via his agent (“As Ood as it might sound, Olly is focusing on his music, for the time being”) and once himself during an interview with CapitalFM.
I don’t personally think Olly’s that likely, but it likely will be someone Davies has worked with before.
Good Omens star Michael Sheen (House in The Doctor’s Wife), recently voted as the fans’ choice for the role, is at 5/2, beating Richard Ayoade who is at 8-1.
Then there’s the regenerated General from Hell Bent, T’Nia Miller (7-1), another name in the frame due to starring in Davies’ drama Years and Years (yes, it’s confusing, I know).
I May Destroy You creator, Michaela Coel is similarly 7-1, while Ben Miller (Robot of Sherwood) and Rege-Jean Page (Bridgerton) are 12-1 and 16-1 respectively .
Rhys Irfans (The Amazing Spider-Man) fame, is at 8-1, as is comedian, Rose Matafeo (Starstruck).
But really, it could be anyone. These odds from William Hill are nonetheless fascinating to hear — and will be doubly so in a few years’ time, when we’ll have had a series or two of the Fourteenth Doctor under our belts!
