Showrunner, Russell T Davies, has said that he’s started work on Doctor Who Series 15, expected to be the second season with Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor.
Indeed, he’s got four scripts on the go right now, and they contain the words “garden”, “firmament”, and “diploma” — yes, Davies has gone back to his Production Notes tradition in Doctor Who Magazine of teasing three words from upcoming scripts. Of course, these words are in isolation with no context whatsoever, so reveal… absolutely nothing.
With that in mind, episode eight of Doctor Who Series 14 includes the words, “kingdom”, “gold”, and “Tigella”. The latter is the name of the planet seen in the Fourth Doctor serial, Meglos (1980). We seriously doubt the TARDIS will be landing back there, although at one stage, Meglos was due to be revealed as the threat in The Lodger (before that plan was scrapped).
It’s great that Davies is ploughing ahead with Series 15 already, especially considering how The Writer’s Tale, a book of correspondences between Russell and a DWM journalist, revealed that Davies often stressed over scripts right up until the last minute (which, in fairness, is still likely the case — writers do tend to mull things over and pull their hair out right up until the deadline). Saying that, there are rumours that Series 15 will go in front of the cameras soon anyway, giving Gatwa time to do other projects between seasons; nonetheless, that’s just speculation.
We don’t expect Series 15 to begin airing on BBC1 and Disney+ until 2025: before that, we’ve got three 60th anniversary specials coming up in November 2023, then Gatwa’s debut at Christmas and an eight-episode Series 14 coming in early 2024.
Either way, exciting times are ahead…
