Cast and Synopsis Announced for Boom, Steven Moffat’s Return to Doctor Who

Former showrunner, Steven Moffat, returns to Doctor Who with the next episode of Series 14, Boom — and the BBC has released the cast list and synopsis for the story.

Here’s what to expect from the Fifteenth Doctor serial:

In the episode, the Doctor and Ruby are caught in the middle of a devastating war on Kastarion 3, a world on the farthest edges of the galaxy. The Kastarions themselves can’t be seen, hiding in the fog. The planetary battlefield is all traps, smoke, mud, danger, and ruins, and the Doctor is trapped when he steps on a landmine. The Doctor must hold his nerve to save himself and Ruby, plus the entire planet… without moving.

In the midst of this, the Doctor and Ruby meet someone who might, one day, change their lives forever.

I love this concept so much. But of course Moffat would deliver an outstanding idea. And we’re sure it’s going to be fantastic.

Here’s who’s going to be in Boom:

The Doctor: Ncuti Gatwa
Ruby Sunday: Millie Gibson
John Francis Vater: Joe Anderson
Carson: Majid Mehdizadeh-Valoujerdy
Splice Alison Vater: Caoilinn Springall
Canterbury James Olliphant: Bhav Joshi
Ambulance: Susan Twist

Yep, Susan Twist is in it again, so there’s definitely something going on. Might “In the midst of this, the Doctor and Ruby meet someone who might, one day, change their lives forever” be a hint towards the character?

This is the first TV Doctor Who by Moffat since Twice Upon a Time in 2017, though he’d been an integral part since 2005’s The Empty Child/ The Doctor Dances.

Directed by Julie Anne Robinson, Boom will air on BBC1 on 18th May 2024 at 6:50pm in the UK, though will also be available to stream on BBC iPlayer and Disney+ (where available) at midnight earlier that day.
