Showrunner, Russell T Davies, has teased that publicity shoots for the next season of Doctor Who will begin next month (February 2025), hinting at a start date for Series 15 in early spring, i.e. late March or more likely April.
This would tie into previous Davies-helmed series premiering around Eastertime, which this year falls late in April.
In the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine, Davies writes:
“And now the TARDIS sits in shadow. Like a secret. The studio will flare into life, briefly, I hope, in February for a few days — I’m writing this in early January so plans aren’t confirmed yet, but we will probably shoot material for publicity, and those thousand Electronic Press Kits that you have to do. And maybe [specially-shot] trailers.”
We’ve not had specially-made trailers for a while, so that should be a nice treat.
This seems to fly in the face of Bad Wolf Studios advertising studio space, which many have understandably presumed it means the TARDIS set has been dismantled. Nonetheless, Russell might simply mean the TARDIS exterior will be used for filming — we simply don’t know at this stage.
Davies also promises:
“The show in 2025 is going to be bigger and madder and darker, taking wilder swings than ever.”
That will either make you excited or roll your eyes.
Either way, we’ll find out what Series 15 (or Season 2, if we really must) has in store for the Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and new companion, Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu) soon…
