Jo Martin Would Love to Return for a Fugitive Doctor Who Spin-Off

Jo Martin, who played the so-called “Fugitive Doctor” in the Thirteenth Doctor era, has enthused about returning to the role for Big Finish, and further teased that she “wouldn’t be surprised” if she were invited back to Doctor Who at some point.

Calling for a spin-off to explore the incarnation fully, Martin said:

“Just for the fans, who love that incarnation of the Doctor, it would be really nice to get a bit more. Because she’s filled with mystery, and there are still lots of questions that when fans ask me, I’m like, ‘I don’t know! I’m not sure!’ I start making s**t up! So I think it would be [a] really nice – ahem, spin-off!

“The great thing [about Doctor Who] is that a character who you may have watched 15, 20 years ago, suddenly they’re back. The possibilities are endless because it’s all make-believe anyway, so anything could happen. I wouldn’t be surprised if I end up going back at some point. It wouldn’t surprise me and I hope that happens.”

Indeed, we don’t know much at all about the Fugitive Doctor — not even where she comes from, given that she could be before the First Doctor (William Hartnell), except the TARDIS’ Chameleon Circuit betrays that idea, so instead, maybe she’s somewhere between the Second and Third Doctors (Patrick Troughton and Job Pertwee, respectively), or maybe, heck, even sometime afterwards. That is, if she even is the same Doctor we know.

Martin debuted in the role in Fugitive of the Judoon, and reappeared in The Timeless Children and other Thirteenth Doctor TV tales; she’s now starring in an audio series of boxsets from Big Finish. And we’ve got a review coming up on the DWC very soon, so keep your eyes peeled!
