Alex Kingston, who plays River Song in Doctor Who, says it’s a “missed opportunity” that her character didn’t meet Jodie Whittaker’s incarnation of the Doctor.
Kingston said:
“Jodie and I have met and we’ve had conversations about this, about how we felt that it was a missed opportunity that they didn’t share an adventure together on BBC television… And so I’m 100% sure that there’s a writer somewhere who’s already coming up with some sort of adventure storyline that brings the two of us together, because I think it would be absolutely fantastic and I know it’s what the fans would love.”
Yeah, it’d be nice for River to tick off another incarnation in her Doctor Checklist, though it’s unlikely on TV, as River was last seen in 2015’s The Husbands of River Song and the Thirteenth Doctor regenerated in 2022’s The Power of the Doctor.
Nonetheless, it could definitely happen in audio — Big Finish joys in teaming up River with various Doctors, and The Thirteenth Doctor Adventures began last year, while River’s stories are ongoing too. We’re pretty sure she’s met all the previous Doctors in audio boxsets…
Personally, I’d rather we didn’t see River at the moment; I like her era being separate from the current iteration of the series.
On TV, River met the Tenth, Eleventh, and Twelfth Doctors, respectively played by David Tennant, Matt Smith, and Peter Capaldi. We saw her die in her debut story, Silence in the Library/ Forest of the Dead, yet she came back, seeing as the audience experiences her tales (and life) largely, though not entirely, in reverse.
