Fifteenth Doctor actor, Ncuti Gatwa, is to host the UK version of popular entertainment show, Saturday Night Live.
The show has a series of co-hosts heading episodes, supported by a regular team of comedians, and Gatwa will take centre stage on 16th May 2026. That is also expected to be the last episode in the first series of Saturday Night Live UK.
The comedy variety show premiered on Sky One on 21st March 2026 with Tina Fey hosting; subsequent hosts have included Riz Ahmed, Jamie Dornan, and Joy to the World star, Nicola Coughlan. The latter also appeared in the opening monologue from episode one.
Gatwa will be appearing in an episode also featuring music from Holly Humberstone, who won the 2022 Brit Award for Rising Star.
Though Gatwa is the first Doctor to star in the show, the most recent episode of Saturday Night Live UK showed Aimee Lou Wood (Sex Education) in a Doctor Who sketch, where she appears as the companion, alongside Hammed Animashaun as the Doctor.
Doctor Who showrunner, Russell T Davies, reacted to the sketch:
“SNL:UK! We saw it live in studio tonight, one of the best nights ever! What a cast, what a crew, what a production. They even did a Doctor Who sketch! “Doctor, what the f*** is that?” I love this show, it’s wildly funny, and so British, swinging from satire to the absurd to echoes of Vic & Bob, and sometimes, like with the Pig Board tonight, there’s a glimpse of something strange and dark and old lurking underneath. Genius! An absolute triumph.”
We’re not sharing it here, however, as youngsters might be reading.
