Twelfth Doctor actor, Peter Capaldi, has an idea about who he’d cast as the next Doctor in Doctor Who.
Peter was at the O2 Silver Clef Awards 2026, raising money and the profile of the largest independent music therapy charity in the UK, and, when asked about who he’d like to be the next Doctor, he replied:
“Oh, I don’t know. There’s lots of people I would… I always loved Frances de la Tour to be Doctor Who. I think she’d be a wonderful Doctor.”
However, Capaldi says he has absolutely no sway or insider information about the show:
“People always assume that because you’ve been Doctor Who, you are somehow kept in the loop. I have no idea what’s going on with it at all.”
And sadly, he reaffirmed that he wouldn’t return to Doctor Who. (But come on, never say never, right?)
Frances de la Tour is a prolific actress who’s been in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Professor T, Mr Holmes, Poirot, Waking the Dead, Marple, and lots more — but strangely, she’s never been in Doctor Who.
But for now, the future of Doctor Who is in the air — it’s been a month since the BBC announced its decision to put it out to tender — so let’s twiddle our thumbs. And in the comments below, why not tell us who you’d like to see as the Doctor? I’d say Damien Molony, Josh O’Connor, or, my long-standing favourite for the part, Matthew Macfadyen. Seriously, have you seen him in Spooks and Ripper Street?! Incredible lead actor.
