Director, Rachel Talalay is rumoured to be in the running to helm the upcoming Marvel movie, Captain Marvel.
The film was announced back in October 2014, and at the latest San Diego Comic Con, Brie Larson (Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World; Community) was announced as the titular heroine, but there’s been no word on who will actually direct it. The list, however, has apparently been narrowed down to ten directors, and that reportedly includes Talalay.
This is according to Lexi Alexander, who stated on Twitter that her own name isn’t on the list but Rachel’s is.

Rachel’s first stint on Doctor Who was the Series 8 finale, Dark Water/ Death in Heaven, but she also worked closely with Peter Capaldi and co. for the Series 9 conclusion, Heaven Sent/ Hell Bent. Basically, she has good credentials. We’ll next see her work on Sherlock, for which she’s directed the opening episode of Series 4.
Talalay’s credits otherwise are extensive, including two superhero shows – albeit for DC – The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow (with Arthur Darvill!).
Captain Marvel will be the first female-led film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when it comes to cinemas in March 2019, but fans familiar with the comic will note that Carol Danvers is only the latest name to bear the moniker of “Captain Marvel”; Danvers was previously known as Ms Marvel, Warbird, and Binary, while the best known Captain Marvel is the deceased Kree soldier, Mar-Vell (though the title has since been passed on to Monica Rambeau – otherwise known as Photon – Genis-Vell, Mar-Vell’s son, and briefly, Noh-Varr).
Captain Marvel was created in 1967, and Danvers debuted the following year.
