Happy 2017 From The Doctor Who Companion!

Happy New Year from everyone at the DWC!
2016 has been a strange 12 months. Though it’s certainly quickened the blood on many fronts, it’ll go down in history as a notable year. It’s been divisive, that’s for sure, and sad too: the number of celebrities we’ve lost is shocking – from Terry Wogan to David Bowie, Alan Rickman to Richard Adams.
But 2016 has also been cause for celebration, at least for us – because it’s when the DWC debuted! It wasn’t the most obvious time; after all, only one episode of Doctor Who aired, and that just a week ago – The Return of Doctor Mysterio on Christmas Day. Fortunately, the team has had plenty to occupy their time, including updates on Series 10, Big Finish, novels, non-fiction books, action figures, other audio adventures, and a heady mix of opinion, facts, and trivia.
That means we’ve published nearly 950 articles since March. Not bad, eh?
2017 will be exciting. We’ve Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor, and Matt Lucas as Nardole in 12 episodes from the spring; they’re joined by Pearl Mackie as Bill Potts, and the Series 10 trailer has definitely hyped us up. Then there’s the 2017 Christmas special, the last regular episode to be written by Steven Moffat, showrunner since 2010’s Series 5 and writer of Doctor Who since 2005 (unless you count The Curse of Fatal Death). We’ll also see Broadchurch, the headline-grabbing ITV show created by upcoming Who showrunner, Chris Chibnall, and later today, Sherlock Series 4 starts with The Six Thatchers
What’s more, we have plenty from Big Finish, Titan Comics, BBC Books, and more.
As the Ninth Doctor might say, 2017 is going to be fantastic. And this is where it all begins.
