Karen Gillan on Steven Moffat "He's Ready To Be A Fanboy Again"

Wishing the old boss a fond farewell, Karen Gillan paid tribute to the man that cast her as Amy Pond eight years ago.
Gillan, who can next be seen in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, told Digital Spy that both Steven Moffat and Arthur Darvill attended the London premiere to show their support – it’s a Pond reunion!
Speaking about Moffat’s impending departure after this year’s Christmas special, Twice Upon a Time, she said:

“I can’t believe he’s leaving. I think he’s ready to finish, though, because I think he’s ready to be a fanboy again, and that’s sort of what he said to me. He was like, ‘I just cannot wait to watch this as a fan’.”

Someone else who is now watching the show as a fan is Gillian herself:

“I haven’t caught up, but whenever I’m home, I can’t wait for the Christmas special. That’s all I want to do at Christmas. I’m not leaving my house because that’s on!

“So yeah, I definitely appreciate it now as a fan, and I love Pearl [Mackie, who plays companion Bill Potts]. I think that she’s brilliant, and I’m so excited to see what Jodie [Whittaker] does as well.”

Asked to pick her favourite stories from her time aboard the TARDIS, Gillan picked both the beginning and the end of her time as a main cast member.

“I love The Eleventh Hour more than anything – the first one that me and Matt did, just because I think that Steven Moffat had that story ready to go from when he was a child. So it’s pretty much a perfect story and a perfectly constructed script.

“I just think there’s such a particular magic to that episode because everything was new, and my little cousin played the younger version of me in it, and she made everyone fall in love with my character.

“I’ve got to choose my last episode [too] – The Angels Take Manhattan. Yeah, that one, definitely. That’s genuinely one of my favourites, too. The first one and the last one!”

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle hits cinemas on December 20.
