It’s been a long time coming, but the time is nigh. It is finally here. Again. Doctor Who Season 12 is back – for the first time ever on Blu-ray!
Doctor Who: The Collection – Season 12 collects together Tom Baker’s first season as the Fourth Doctor: Robot, in which a nutty professor creates a nuttier, size-altering robot; The Ark in Space, in which the last vestiges of mankind fight against Alien-like creatures; The Sontaran Experiment, in which the Sontarans prepare to invade an Earth which no longer has any inhabitants; Genesis of the Daleks, in which the Doctor must question whether he has the right to commit genocide; and Revenge of the Cybermen, in which the Doctor, Sarah, and Harry explore Wookey Hole.
This is hopefully the first in a series of boxsets collecting together classic seasons of Doctor Who: indeed, the packaging promises you can “build your own Doctor Who archive with the ultimate collectors’ set”.
As well as all the special features from the individual DVD releases, the set also includes:
- TOM BAKER IN CONVERSATION: A candid new one-hour interview with the Fourth Doctor.
- BEHIND THE SOFA: Classic clips from Season 12, viewed by Tom Baker, Philip Hinchcliffe, Louise Jameson, Janet Fielding, Sarah Sutton, and Sadie Miller, Elisabeth Sladen’s daughter.
- NEW MAKING-OF DOCUMENTARIES: For The Sontaran Experiment and Revenge Of The Cybermen.
- IMMERSIVE 5.1 SURROUND SOUND MIXES: For The Ark In Space and Genesis Of The Daleks.
- OPTIONAL BRAND NEW UPDATED SPECIAL EFFECTS: For Revenge Of The Cybermen.
- GENESIS OF THE DALEKS – OMNIBUS MOVIE VERSION: Unseen since broadcast in 1975.
- THE TOM BAKER YEARS: The 1991 VHS release, on disc for the first time
- PRODUCTION ARCHIVE MATERIAL: PDF files from the BBC Archives
Season 12 was originally due out in the UK on Monday 11th June 2018, but issues with the Limited Edition packaging meant it was delayed until 2nd July 2018.
Nonetheless, we’re pleased to finally be able to say —
Doctor Who: The Collection – Season 12 is out now, with an RRP of £39.99.
