Logopolis, the story that heralded Tom Baker’s final regular appearance in Doctor Who, is to receive a theatrical release, a mere 38 years after its original broadcast. Fathom Events will screen the landmark story in a select group of American cinemas on the 13th March 2019 to promote Doctor Who: The Collection – Season 18, which will be released on Blu-ray on 19th March (in the US; it’s out on 25th February in the UK). The new edition of the story, which was written by then script-editor, Christopher H. Bidmead, has been upgraded and remastered from the original video and sports enhanced visual effects.
The four-part story is notable for several firsts in Doctor Who history. It marks the first appearance of Janet Fielding as ‘Mouth on Legs,’ Tegan Jovanka, the first full story for Anthony Ainley’s Master, and Peter Davison’s first appearance as the nascent Fifth Doctor. It was also the last occasion, until Rose in 2005, that the Doctor was credited as ‘Doctor Who.’
The cinema screenings will also feature a newly-recorded interview with Tom Baker, Janet Fielding, and Sarah Sutton, who played Nyssa of Traken. British fans, who are lucky enough already to have purchased a ticket, will be able to see the story at the British Film Institute on London’s South Bank on 17th February 2019.
Doctor Who: The Collection – Season 18 is released on Blu-ray in the UK on 25th February.
