No offense to Wales, but filming Doctor Who just got slightly more glamorous: shooting for Series 12 has previously taken place on Barry Island, in Cardiff, and at the Ministry Of Defense base in St Athan – but the cast and crew have now flown out to Tenerife in the Canary Islands!
They’re currently based in Los Gigantes in the Santiago del Teide municipality; the area’s most notable for its giant rock formations and stunning harbour.
Los Gigantes only has one hotel, and Mandip Gill and Tosin Cole, who play companions, Yasmin Khan and Ryan Sinclair respectively, have reportedly been seen checking in.
Jodie Whittaker has also been spotted on the flight to Tenerife. We can only presume Bradley Walsh is also there, or is in transit. (Unless he’s not needed for these scenes, of course – he was previously seen at the MOD hangar in Wales just a couple of days ago, so we presume he’s in the episode currently in production.)
Tenerife has proved popular with the Doctor Who team of late, with episodes like The Magician’s Apprentice/ The Witch’s Familiar and The Pyramid at the End of the World recently filmed there. The Canary Islands have also hosted shoots for Planet of Fire, Kill the Moon, and Hell Bent.
Doctor Who Series 12 will air in early 2020.
