The Inbetweeners Actor to Star in Doctor Who Series 12

James Buckley will appear in Doctor Who Series 12, in an episode helmed by a director new to the show, Lee Haven Jones. This means Buckley will likely be in either episode 3 or 4 – or, indeed, both – which were partly shot in Tenerife.

The Inbetweeners star will play Nevi according to his online CV, and was spotted on the Canary Islands sporting a green wig earlier in the year.

Buckley’s Inbetweeners co-stars, Greg Davies (The Husbands of River Song), Joe Thomas (Situation Vacant), and Blake Harrison (Hour of the Cybermen) have an association with Doctor Who already. Though Buckley’s not been a part of the Doctor Who universe before, he did tweet in 2013, “I think playing the next doctor who would show off my versatility. Yea, a rude, disgusting, fowl mouthed doctor who ….” So there’s lovely, eh?

More interestingly, however, are his recent comments on the price of fame. He’s admitted that he suffers from anxiety, and explained:

“I am struggling with it, and I’m not even that famous. I’m not Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt, but I really struggle with it. It’s something I find really difficult. People taking secret pictures of me… it fries my brain. Just come and talk to me, I’d love to talk to you. That’s gonna make my day.”

You do find a lot of famous folk regaling the troubles of being well-known, but I personally admire Buckley for going one step further and saying it’s caused him anxiety attacks, something most people don’t talk about it in private, let alone to newspapers!

Doctor Who Series 12 will air in early 2020.
