Everything You Need to Know About the Doctor Who Escape Rooms

Fans still face a long wait for the return of Doctor Who to our screens, so apart from the DVDs, streaming, audios, books, and goodness knows what else, what other ways can people missing their favourite show get their fix?

Well, those who fancy exercising their grey cells a little may like to try one of the new Doctor Who-themed Escape Rooms, now open in Bristol, Leeds, Oxford, Manchester, Reading, and Birmingham.

Titled Worlds Collide, the game sees teams of up to six transported into the future where eccentric billionaire (is there any other kind?) Alastair Montague’s attempts to develop commercial time travel have caused a tear in the fabric of space and time, which the Cybermen will use to attack Earth.

Doughty reporters in Bristol have had a spin in the Worlds Collide TARDIS and lived to tell the tale, with B24/7’s Martin Booth reporting that ‘this being an escape room where a variety of clues need to be solved in order to prevent Cybermen from attacking Earth, we’re not able to reveal much of what is contained inside.’

Hmm, that’s disappointing Martin – call yourself a journalist? But happily the article goes on to reveal that ‘there are objects from the distant past as well as the distant future, games of both wit and skill, and even a time machine.’ The game is said to be suitable for both the dedicated fans who know the show inside out and those with a more passing knowledge, so don’t worry about taking your soap fan Uncle or Top Gear enthusiast Granny along.

And if you fancy a look inside a room, Bristol Post has some exclusive photos.

With a standard price per person of £28 for a 2-3 player game or £23 for 4-6 players, Worlds Collide isn’t exactly a cheap hour of entertainment (there are discounts for students and over 60’s on Monday-Thursdays, but – disappointingly – no reductions for children) but if you fancy a treat for the holidays it looks like a fun way to immerse yourself in the world of Doctor Who.
