Is This Matt Smith in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker?

It’s been well over a year now since Matt Smith was first linked with the next Star Wars film, The Rise of Skywalker, and while he’s never been officially confirmed to be in the movie, one recent photo of an alien character does share a resemblance with the Eleventh Doctor actor.

The image is featured on a Topps trading card, shared on Twitter by a fan. Speculation soon began about who could be behind the blue prosthetic. And Matt’s name was swiftly thrown into the mix.

The character’s name isn’t listed; instead, he’s merely “A New Face”.

While Matt hasn’t been spotted during filming, such make-up would hide his face effectively. Remember when people spotted John Simm on location for World Enough and Time, but couldn’t identify him as he was dressed as Mr Razor?

Okay, so Smith has previously said he’s “definitely not” in Star Wars, but then Disney accidentally revealed a cast list:

“Joining the cast of Episode IX are Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, Keri Russell, Matt Smith, and Dominic Monaghan, who will be joined by veteran Star Wars actors Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams, who will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian.”

That was then deleted.

So if he is involved, they’re trying to keep it secret.

I guess we’ll see. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker comes to UK cinemas on 19th December 2019.
