Tonight’s Doctor Who lockdown rewatch shines a light on the Twelfth Doctor companion, Bill Potts, played by Pearl Mackie, as fans gather (metaphorically… or digitally, at least) to tweet along to The Pilot.

Organised by Doctor Who Magazine‘s Emily Cook, these watch-alongs are to bring people together during the lockdown imposed by the UK government in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Previous rewatches have included The Husbands of River Song (which precedes The Pilot), Turn Left, and Blink. Her Twitter followers were encouraged to pick a companion that the next rewatch would feature. Bill Potts was chosen, which naturally led to her introductory tale being picked.

Pleasingly, the episode also stars Matt Lucas as Nardole.

The Pilot launched Doctor Who Series 10 back in 2017, setting up story threads that would be resolved in the season finale, The Doctor Falls. It’s one of the most uplifting and thrilling episodes of recent years, so makes a perfect story to rewatch.

It’s also nice to have an episode called The Pilot, despite not being the pilot, to celebrate Doctor Who‘s anniversary weekend!

How do you join in? Just start playing The Pilot at 7pm (GMT) tonight – that’s Saturday 21st November 2020. Use the hashtag #ATimeForHeroes.
