Former showrunner, Steven Moffat has revealed that he was one of the only people new/old showrunner, Russell T Davies showed Ncuti Gatwa’s audition tape to — and Moffat promises that “we are all in for a treat”.
It should come as no surprise, really: Davies and Moffat are old friends, and both adore the show. Nonetheless, It’s fantastic to get the seal of approval of the chap who helped cast Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi as the Eleventh and Twelfth Doctors respectively.
Moffat said:
“Finally I can admit it. I’ve seen the new Doctor in action. Russell showed me the audition tape a while back. He is magnificent: all at once a brand new hero and the same wonderful mad old Doctor we’ve always known. Trust me, we are all in for a treat.”
Gatwa was revealed as the Fourteenth Doctor on Saturday 8th May, meaning he and Russell were on the BAFTA red carpet that night. Perfect timing, in retrospect! Sadly, Gatwa’s show, Sex Education, didn’t win an award at the weekend’s ceremony, but hey, it was still a good platform for us to meet our new Time Lord.
We’ll get to enjoy Ncuti as the Doctor soon. But first, we’ve got one more episode with Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor to enjoy, expected in October.
Anyway, here’s the Fourteenth Doctor singing the Doctor Who theme tune. If you’re on TikTok, you can film yourself doing it too. Don’t try tagging the DWC, though. We’re not on TikTok. For that very reason.
