Missing Doctor Who already? The BBC has now confirmed that three specials will air to celebrate the show’s 60th anniversary in November 2023.
And indeed, all three will screen in that month on BBC1 and BBC America. That means we’ve got just a little more than a year before a new era of the series properly kicks off.
Now that the Thirteenth Doctor has regenerated, we wait to see what happens with the new incarnation of the Time Lord — who looks a lot like the Tenth Doctor! New showrunner, Russell T Davies has also confirmed that Ncuti Gatwa will be the Fifteenth Doctor.
(Although, seeing the forced regeneration in The Power of the Doctor, isn’t Jodie the Thirteenth and Fifteenth Doctor, Sacha Dhawan the Fourteenth, David Tennant the Sixteenth, and Gatwa the Seventeenth? Oh, who knows anymore?!)
Talking about the future, Davies, said:
“If you thought the appearance of David Tennant was a shock, we’ve got plenty more surprises on the way! The path to Ncuti’s Fifteenth Doctor is laden with mystery, horror, robots, puppets, danger, and fun! And how is it connected to the return of the wonderful Donna Noble? How, what, why? We’re giving you a year to speculate, and then all hell lets loose!”
(Puppets, eh…?)
Yep, Catherine Tate is also back as Donna Noble. Here’s our first very brief look at Tennant’s and Tate’s return, and Gatwa as the new Doctor…
We expect the 60th anniversary to be a massive event, and David’s comeback will no doubt bring even more viewers in. Exciting times ahead…
