The soundtracks of the third ever Doctor Who story, The Edge of Destruction, will be released by Demon Records in April this year to mark Record Store Day 2024.
Comprising of two episodes — The Edge of Destruction and The Brink of Disaster — this brand new audio presentation makes its debut in any format with this vinyl release, features unique linking narration by Carole Ann Ford, who played Susan in the original 1964 serial.
The CD version will then be released in May 2024.
There’s also a bonus interview with Ford, in which she recalls playing the Doctor’s granddaughter.
The 12″ vinyl has a picture disc Side A, showing the Ship’s melting ormolu clock, and a Zoetrope Side B, depicting the TARDIS swirling across space and time (best experienced using a smartphone running a third-party stroboscope app, apparently… whatever that is).
Here’s the very brief synopsis for the story:
Escaping from their previous adventure, the Doctor, Susan, Ian Chesterton (William Russell) and Barbara Wright (Jacqueline Hill) are inside the TARDIS when it appears to be taken over by an outside force.
The Edge of Destruction is a really underrated story, so it’s nice to see it getting some attention on the 60th anniversary of its broadcast. Its taut script and limited budget (meaning only the already-built TARDIS set could be used) makes for a psychological thriller that constantly puts you on the back foot and allows the characters to really shine — Barbara especially.
The disc will be released on 20 April 2024 on Record Store Day.
