Did you miss seeing Tenth and Fourteenth Doctors actor, David Tennant, live in Macbeth? You might be in luck as, next month, a recording of the production heads to cinemas across the UK!
Tennant, of course, plays the lead in William Shakespeare’s much-loved tragedy, and he’s joined by Cush Jumbo as Lady Macbeth.
I was lucky enough to go see the play, and during it, we all put on headphones to enhance the experience, giving us some of that ASMR that’s all the rage right now; in cinemas, the recording will be mixed to integrate the audio effects into the performance. Music plays an important role in the this production, so we’re looking forward to seeing how this is realised in cinema. The three witches are especially well done.
The film will play at selected cinemas across the UK on 5th February 2025. We’re not sure if this is part of National Theatre Live, an ongoing series of theatrical recordings, bringing theatre to the masses — notably those who don’t want to pay extortionate West End prices! Either way, it’s a good way of introducing people to Shakespeare.
The cast also includes Rob Alexander-Adams, Moyo Akandé, Annie Grace, Jasmin Hinds, Martyn Hodge, Brian James O’Sullivan, Casper Knopf, Gemma Laurie, Cal MacAninch, Kathleen MacInnes, Alasdair Macrae, Niall MacGregor, Rona Morison, Noof Ousellam, Raffi Phillips, Jatinder Singh Randhawa, Theo Wake, Ros Watt, and Benny Young.
