Following the announcement that Inua Ellams has written for the next season of Doctor Who, the poet and playwright has revealed that Series 15 is due to air in April into May 2025.
He wrote on Instagram:
“FINALLY, FINALLY news dropped last Monday – about the hardest secret I’ve ever had to keep – that I wrote an episode on the upcoming series of Doctor Who! Guys, I’ve been watching this show since I was 10 yrs old in Nigeria – for 30 years! Getting to write an ep was a dreams [sic], no, was several of my wildest fantasies come true! There is so much MORE I wish I could tell you right now, but I’ve signed NDAs so vast, they blanket the universe and exist in the past, present and future. I have to stay schtum. The new series drops in April and May.”
This is roughly in line with what we thought, although slightly contradicted by showrunner, Russell T Davies, saying the season would be available sooner than we think.
If the series is eight episodes long, considering May has five Saturdays, that means Series 15 is likely to start either 5th or 12th April 2025, concluding on 24th or 31st May.
It’s fantastic to hear the writer so enthusiastic about the job. It’s exactly what Doctor Who needs — not just right now, but always. When something is a labour of love, it shows.
Nonetheless, we hope Ellams doesn’t get in trouble for this, considering that an airdate hasn’t been announced by the BBC or streaming service, Disney+.
