Doctor Who Writer, Joe Lidster, to Attend East Yorkshire Heritage Railway Day Today

Prolific Doctor Who writer, Joe Lidster, is to appear at the Yorkshire Wolds Railway, at Fimber, in East Yorkshire, today (27th May 2026).

Lidster will be there as part of the railway’s Little Dodgers Book Day, a general celebration of books. The day offers free train rides for youngsters who are dressed as a character from a book (with each fare-paying adult), alongside free colouring and a book-related trail.

Doctor Who fans will know Joe for writing The Mark of the Berserker, The Mad Woman in the Attic, and The Nightmare Man, episodes of spin-off, The Sarah Jane Adventures, as well as Torchwood: A Day in the Death. He’s also written a huge amount of Big Finish, plus the new Target novelisation of Ninth Doctor serial, Aliens of London/ World War Three.

Celia Wilkinson, volunteer at YWR, said:

“We are very much looking forward to welcoming Joe to the YWR during the half-term school break. He has worked on many exciting series, including the Doctor Who spin-off series, Torchwood, and The Sarah Jane Adventures so we know there will be a lot of interest. While on site, Joe will also kindly be giving away two signed copies of his new Doctor Who book – The Aliens of London.”

It sounds like a nice little event during the school half-term break, helping to involve children in the railway network.

The Yorkshire Wolds Railway itself is run entirely by volunteers and runs trains every Sunday and bank holiday until the end of October, and every Wednesday during school holidays.
