The latest edition of the Kasterborous podcast has considered the impact of the recent “Doctor Who Reboot” AI project, and had a think about what it really means – not just for the viewers, but for the show’s identity.

After all, doesn’t the Doctor himself deny generated realities?

Christian Cawley and James McLean get together to have an in-depth discussion about the AI Doctor Who project, and whether such a thing can really fill a hole for fans. Expressing creativity is important, but this may not be the best way to do it. As James observes:

“To me, Doctor Who has always been about… the character and the show is about a person who personifies and fights for humanist rights… the whole show is as anti-AI, I suppose, as any show could be”

There’s more to it than that discussion, however. Christian and James also spend some time mulling over the Invitation to Tender document issued by the BBC last week, and continue their long-running speculation about when Doctor Who will return to TV and how it will be distributed. They’ve also identified a possible likely role for BBC Studios, which was not mentioned as a bidder in the document (although it was mentioned as a bidder in the earlier Silent Witness ITT).
