Jodie Whittaker Confirms She’ll Return for Doctor Who Series 12

In news that will be a surprise to roughly 12.8% of the population, Jodie Whittaker has confirmed she’ll return as the Thirteenth Doctor for Doctor Who Series 12.

The actress said:

“I really can’t wait to step back in and get to work again. It’s such an incredible role. It’s been an extraordinary journey so far and I’m not quite ready to hand it over yet.”

Though some predicted another festive regeneration, most have come to believe that Whittaker would stay on the show further – especially with rumours that Series 12 would be split between 2019 and 2020, with Jodie subsequently leaving alongside showrunner, Chris Chibnall afterwards.

Naturally, as this is Doctor Who, fans have been picking apart her comments and finding potential significance in her saying, “I’m not quite ready to hand it over yet”. Does this imply she’s leaving the show soon, or is it a figure of speech and she’s keeping her options open? We’ll have to wait and see…

Meanwhile, Series 11 concludes tomorrow with The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos.
